How to set up the indexing engine

To set up the indexing engine

Step 1

To setup the indexing engine for our purpose, all we need to do is to go to Start and after that, choose the Program option. Then, you need to select Administrative Tools and click Computer Management. Under Services and application, you need to expand it, and then choose Indexing Service.

A window will appear as shown below.

Step 2

Then create a new catalogue first.

Step 3

Now, the user will need to provide a new catalogue name.

Next, you have to click the OK button. You will need to start the Indexing service before it can run.

Creating the catalogue by itself is not sufficient, user will need to create a directory so that indexing service can search base on it.

User can start Indexing service by right click on Snail catalogue that we have created earlier.

Step 6

Next, you need to choose the Directory and another window will appear.

Step 7

Here user will need to key in the path of directory to be index. To see whether our system work correctly, choose Query the catalogue, and that is after you have expanded the snail catalogue (created earlier). Next, just key in a text to search and click on Search.

Step 8

To put the indexing services on the web, all you need to do is to put a directory that you want it to be searchable in the Indexing Services.

Step 9

You need to go to Start option and then select Program. After that, choose the Administrative Tools and click Computer Management option. Under Services and application, you need to expand it, and then choose Indexing Service. Then again, you ought to expand it. Then, under the Web folder, insert a new directory that the server will search for.

Step 10

Now, you need to go to Directory option and choose New. Later, you have to click on Directory. Then enter the directory that you want to index.

Step 11

Later, you have to click Ok. To test this, you need to go to the Query the catalogue and click Search.
